The wine is one of the main components of the Mediterranean diet and culture.

At the beginning in Ibiza, people from the country used to make their own wine at home, but it was a very basic technique and wines used to go sour very quickly. It was in 1990, when the Ibiza wine business started to grow, and very soon became one of the best Mediterranean wine. This wine-producing area has a subtropical and dry climate, a lot of sun hours, high temperatures and humidity in summer; moderate temperatures in winter, and very few rain, usually in autumn. It has a limited production and that's why quality is more important than quantity and in this production you can find a wine with aromatic, powerful and balsamic flavour, with a full-bodied but structured wine, that suits any meal.

Initially, the wines from the bodegas were mistaken with wines from the land of Ibiza. This comparation made them great harm. But with time and effort, the name of Ibiza's wineries went beyond the borders. In 1996, Ibiza has been recognized as area producing wine from the land, and since they are working towards the designation of origin.

Currently, on the island we find several wineries that produce and market quality recognized wines in a total area of 130 hectares of vineyards, where the black grapes are the most common, the variety Monastrell. When this variety isn't found on its own, it mixes with Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Merlot. The main cabernet grape between the white grape is called macabeo, although Chardonnay, Moscatel and Parellada are also used. Moreover there have been new plantations introduced of black grape syrah and white viognier.
